This is a collection of images from Amanda's time spent back home, on the island of Trinidad, where she documented the nation's annual carnival, a tradition which started in the 18th century when the island was a French Colony. Plantation owners at the time would host extravagant balls ahead of the Catholic season of Lent, the slaves who were not allowed to partake in the events began hosting their own celebrations, this tradition which has continued on, is what we know today as Carnival.
